The main advantage to picks / missile bolts on
a rock face is the damage is quite localized.
A petard's shock wave would likely bring down
rock where ever it is weak.
I am also worried that most of the energy
would not blast rock. When petards were used
against castle walls, they normally had to be
dug into a pit at the base of the wall and then
be buried.
