So, you can't really expect any one person to be happy all of the time.
And, in my experience, you can't make everybody happy all the time
anyway. But if all he wants to do is dig, and if his insistence on this
behavior isn't disruptive, then getting my GM undies in a bundle is
wasted energy.
This is an entirely different matter if it's disruptive. As Gav points
out, I am also the host (excellent analogy, by the way, Gav, thanks), so
if the digger tries to be disruptive to the game, I won't tolerate that.
I won't make him go to the other side of the room; I would, in fact, be
very much inclined to ask him to leave.

fun for everyone else and is notably out of alignment with what we're
trying to do here. Please -- either get it figured out and have fun
with what the rest of us are doing, or pack up your things, leave my
house, and don't come to any more gaming sessions with this group."
Definitely not Emily Post ettiquette, where I should endeavor to make
everything pleasant for this session and then simply disinvite his
return, but then I don't polish the window-brass, either, and I let my
friends rummage through my fridge and cupboard for drinks and snacks.
