Re: (TFT) Using Melee/Wizard as a Wargame

I love the system, both from a nostalgic point of view and from a conflict simulation point of view.

As for Dark City Games, I looked at their Legends system - how much of it is based on TFT? And how well does that system seem to be doing?

Eight plus, but who's counting?

From a conflict simulation standpoint, all rules systems will
eventually wind their way back to the simple elegance of Melee/ Wizard.

How have you guys found it from a roleplaying standpoint?

I've said before that I like TFT for the streamlined simplicity of the
combat rules. They're more of an abstraction of a battle than a realistic
model, but there's enough detail to keep it interesting.

Most of the RPGs I've gone through, both face to face and online, have
been based on TFT since it allows the player to focus on the tactics and
situation rather than the math.

There is a certain amount of nostalgia involved, to be sure. It's hard to
maintain interest in a game system from a company that's been gone for
20-someodd years. Of course, this is why I'm glad to insert a plug for
Dark City Games ( http://darkcitygames.com ), who are working hard to
keep the game and the system moving forward.
