That's being needlessly pedantic and pessimistic.

The worst part about grand unification theories is that a lot of the  
time the bits don't fit the formulas.

The best part about designing virtual worlds is that you can make the  
bits fit the formulas (and still remain plausible).

As far as human societies go, they can all be reduced to a -very-  
simple formula:  Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

This can be true (with modifications for non-human societies as  
well).  It scales beautifully.
