For simplicity sake, I have always played it by the book.  Howerver, the
downside that has been mentioned regarding a wizard popping out a few spells
and running for cover is not so much an issue when ST batteries are used.
Just about every wizard in my games have SOME sort of battery.  Generally
it's their staff or some trinket.  It has not unbalanced any of the games
I've run or have played in.  I believe that is the way the game was designed
anyway, although it is rare to find any of the microquests use them.
