Tabs are one of the most frustrating things in documents.  After spending
years editing documents on dozens of different machines, I've come to
the conclusion that tabs never translate well from machine to machine,
or even from editor to editor, or even from editor to the printer!

What I've found is that one should always use spaces in documents, 
especially ASCII text (like email) to insure that what you see is what 
others will see.
