RE: (TFT) insanity - bipolar disorder ---> Only 3 cycles per year?

Hi everyone, Cas, DMGII.
I knew a women with bipolar disorder. (She did
not take lithium because it lowered her sex drive and
she so missed the 'up' periods that she was willing
to suffer thru the depressions.)

Anyway, It seemed to me that she cycled thru
her up and down phases a lot more often than 3 times
per year.

(Maybe I just did not pay enough attention, I
saw her maybe 2-3 times a month on average & sometimes
a month or two would go by with out me speaking to her
for any significant period of time.)

Also, with a 1d-3 roll, there is a 50% chance of
someone having NO cycles in a year which seems unlikely
to me.

On the other hand, an ex-friend of mine would
sometimes go into deep depressions once in a while
every year or three. (And sometimes he was really up
and energetic.) If he had bipolar disorder, then the
current rules you suggested might work for him.

Just curious Cas, were these rules accurately
researched or were you inventing?

If I was going to take a guess I would say:

For someone with bipolar d. that one of the mood
swings would switch every 2d6 weeks with a period of
the most powerful mania or depression lasting for 1d-2
weeks (Minimum 2 weeks). This would assure that they
would switch states several times each year.

(I just failed a 3vsIQ to avoid inventing rules
there, didn't I...) ;)

	Rick

Cas,
I had no idea. I thought bipolars fluctuated through out a single day.
But suffering up to six weeks long 0-3 times a year is much better.
Characters are more likely to hire help if they don't show insanities right
away. And I can imagine it will be a lot more fun when suddenly 3 months
later...
