Re: (TFT) Shield Wall - Modifier Options

I believe you break a shield wall by dividing into a small (token) flanking force that holds preparing to flank on one end while you attack with force on the other end.? A shield wall is an inefficient use of men if you are not confronted with a larger, frontal attack.? By placing a fast moving smaller group on the outside,?you can prevent the center and tail from coming to the aid of the head, then you have tied up their power maintaining a useless defense.

Instead of a new Talent, what about making it a set of combat modifiers (as with Mounted, Prone, etc...) which conveys penalties when attacking defenders in a shield wall. Maybe -2 to hit, and -2 damage.?
?
It might go like this...?
?
If Agnar, Bothvar & Cerdic - all with the "Shield" Talent have made a shield-wall, here's what you'd be up against if you attack them:?
?
Attacking Agnar: One shielded flank, so the attacker gets -2 DX & -2 Damage?
Bothvar: Two shielded flanks, giving him -4 DX to hit & -4 Damage?
Cerdic: One shielded flank means once again -2, -2?
?
Attacking Agnar or Cerdic on their exposed Flank might give the attacker a +6 to hit, and +6 damage to account for their dedication to maintaining the shield-wall's integrity. If they break-off to protect themselves, it's like "rolling-up-the-flank". That's how you break a shield-wall, right??

Just my two denarii.?
