One HUGE problem with trying to port SCA results to real world combat and back is that in the SCA, people do not actually get killed (very often) since the intent is to win, not to maim or kill. The general tactics of one-on-one combat are roughly similar, but the effect, effort and mind set are not.
Thus swinging an SCA type weapon to hit an opponent will have the 'proper look' of swinging a real sword as will most defenses against that weapon but the end result is not the same and realistic effects can only be guessed at. Educated guesses and approximations will have to do, as far as I am concerned.
